displaying drum measure repeats
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I am doing full charts for my band with tpt, tenor and t-bone. I want to see repeated bars for the drums, and still have the measure numbers match up. How can I save paper by displaying for example, an 8 bar repeated phrase for the drums?
Thanks. I learn a lot here.

x = number of measures repeated.
To create a x-bar repeat sign:
Make sure you have x blank measures where you want to create the x-bar repeat sign.
Select all x measures with the measure tool.
From the Measure menu, choose Multimeasure Rest>>Create.
From the Measure Menu, choose Multimeasure Rest>>Edit.
Type a "0" (zero) into the Shape select box and click Select.
Click Create.
From the Shape Designer Menu, choose Set Font.
Choose Maestro 24 regular.
Click OK.
Select the Text tool. (A)
Click the mouse directly over the Origo (the small circle).
Type alt-0199 (Windows) or option-\ (Mac).
Now, click the Selection tool (arrow) and center the figure directly over the Origo if it's not already.
Click OK, Select, OK. (Since the measures are empty, it will not playback correctly.)

THANK YOU, Peter! That works great! Now, one more small question. When the repeat sign is utilized, the number symbol (6) or (8) or whatever, is not lined up directly over the sign itself. Is it just a guessing game of what number to enter into the H & V adjustment boxes to get it to center itself over the repeat symbol?
Once again, thanks.

Try this:
1. Choose "Points" as Measurement Units.
Depending on your version of Finale you can choose Measurement Units in the Edit menu or the Options menu.
2. In my Shape Designer directions above, instead of clicking directly over the (0 ; 0), click on (-8,25 ; -6) (= -8,25 Horizontally, & -6 Vertically).
That looks right to me when I return to the score, and view it at 800 % zoom.
But it's perhaps a matter of taste.

Peter, a different problem came up. After I created and used the multi-measure repeats, they revert back to the multi-measure Rests!!
I was looking at them on my screen, printed them out, and they all came out as rests.
The multi measure rest sign is still in the Shape Selection dialog box.
I was using Document/Edit Part/Drum set.
Is there something else I need to do to keep the m-m-repeats so they stay? I just went back and looked, and they are still gone.

It sounds like you are using Finale 2007?
Go to Document Options > Multimeasure Rests
and deselect the option "Update Automatically".
Now your multimeasure rest edits should stick.
