I am using Finale 2007 with Windows XP. In say 4/4 time how can I make one 1/4 note plus one 1/8 note fit into the time of one 1/4 note?
I can easily get three 1/8 notes into the time of one 1/4 note (or two 1/8 notes), but for the first two 1/8 notes I would like to use one 1/4 note
triplets

What entry method are you using?
MIDI keyboard?
Computer keyboard?
Mouse?
Speedy Entry Tool?
Simple Entry Tool?
In this example let's say that you want to enter a triplet of 1/4 note 'A' and 1/8 note 'A'.
With the Speedy Entry Tool the entry string goes like this:
Position the crosshair on the 'A' scale step.
Ctrl-1 (opening the Tuplet Definition...)
Return (...OK...)
NumPad 5 (...entering the 1/4 note...)
NumPad 4 (...entering the 1/8 note)
With the Simple Entry Tool (entry with computer keyboard and entry caret) the string goes like this:
NumPad 5 (Quarter Note Tool...)
A (...entering the 1/4 note...)
Alt-NumPad 9 (...opening the Simple Entry Tuplet Definition...)
Use the pop up menus to define the tuplet as "3 Eighth(s) In The Space Of 2 Eighth(s)"
Return (...OK...)
NumPad 4 (...Eighth Note Tool...)
A (entering the 1/8 note)
