Is there a way to create the muted sounds of brass instruments, such as, for example, Harmon mute or cup mute on trumpet? If not, is there a substitute instrument sound which can approximate the sound(s) of a muted trumpet?

The full Garritan Personal Orchestra has muted sounds for brass instruments.

OK, this solves part of the problem. It looks like I would need to add a separate staff for the muted trumpet wherever it occurs. Which brings me to my next question...how do I add another instrument to an existing score?

If you choose the Staff tool, and the doulble click shere you want to add an staff, then a new staff will magically appear. If, however, you want to add an instument to an existing staff, you could either put the new instrument in its own layer, or change the instrument patch at a particular place in the music. THe first one is easy, the second one you would need to look up in the manual.

OK, well, it took a bit of trial and error, and consulting the manual, but I finally got what I wanted. Thank you!

I have Finale 2014 and have added specific mutes to various trumpet lines in the score. They don't play during playback - they remain the same as before assigning the muting. I've tried various mutes and various JABB settings but no luck. Please help.
Thanks,
Mark

Hello Mark,
I suggest that you also ask your question in the forum on MakeMusic’s web site, since many of the Finale users there know a lot about how to get correct playback of brass instruments with mutes.
