In Finale 2008, I can't seem to shift the repeat sign before the pickup (after 5 8th notes in a 6/8 measure) to the next section in a piano piece. Can anyone help? thanks!

1) Like Mike, I can't quite get it from your description.
However, your subject line (= "How to place repeat sign after 5 8th notes in 6/8 measure?") is quite clear.
I suggest that you try the plug-in "Mid Measure Repeats".
You can find it here (if Finale 2008 has the plug-in, I don't remember):
Plug-In menu > Measures > Mid Measure Repeats
2) I'm not sure, what you mean by the words "shift the repeat sign"?
Do you perhaps want to shift the repeat sign from Forward to Backward?
See the attached graphics.

I have a simple piece with 2 sections, both repeated. There is a pickup to the first section, and a pickup to the second, each pickup is just one eighth note. THe piece is in 6/8. The repeat sign(s - because both sections are repeated) have to fall before the pick up to the second section.
OK, the Plug-in Mid Measure repeat worked for the second section - THANK YOU! but after repeated attempts to insert the repeat sign for the first section, I am getting the message:
"This repeat could not be created due to a composite time signature."
So can I get around this? The entire piece is in 6/8. Thanks!

- Did you use the plug-in?
- or did you use the Repeat Tool's Repeat menu?
- or did you (manually) use the Repeat Tool?

OK - problem solved! After using the Plug in Midmeasure repeat in the second section, the repeat tool allowed me to insert the back repeat sign in the first section. Thanks for the tip and help!
I tried this, following the help instructions, but received the following message no matter what I selected:
"This repeat could not be inserted at the specified location, possibly due to the rhythmical structure of the music."
This message is completely unhelpful. Can anyone be of service here?

Thanks,
You'll see that I've highlighted the measures I want to repeat, but when I select "Mid Measure Repeats," I receive this very nondescript message. I tried everything I could think of to get this to work, even changing the rhythm, but to no avail. The problem seems to be that I want the repeat between beats (because of the 8th pickup)? I'm using Finale 2012.

There are two types of pickup measure.
Which one is used in this particular Finale document?
1) Document menu > Pickup Measure…
This type of pickup measure does not play back correctly, since the pickup layout is created as a full measure with invisible “placeholder rests” at the beginning of the full measure.
2) Time Signature Tool.
Via the option “Use a Different Time Signature for Display” you can create a {real time signature} of 1/8, with a {display time signature} of 3/4.
This type of pickup measure plays back correctly.
For creating Mid Measure Repeats it is better to use a type 2) pickup.
If you can not make it work, attach a (small) Finale sample document here, for the gurus to examine.

Before you can attach a Finale document in this forum, you must compress it, e. g. as a .zip file.
And the file size must not be more than max. 100 KB.

Thank you! I removed the assigned pickup, and used the second type you suggested, and the mid-measure pickup worked. Perhaps Final should include something to this effect in the error message one receives.
I'm trying to do this exact thing, but i only want one backward repeat mid-measure..
no matter what i do, the mid-measure repeat plug in gives me both forward and backward signs at the beginning and ending of the selected area, can't find how to delete one either...
