In Dorico, it's as simple as typing a short string of text.motet wrote:This would, of course, be a nice feature for Finale to have, since it's not that uncommon, rather than resorting to such tsuris.
To be sure, Finale will never have the elegance and advanced features that Dorico has built in. However, for down-and-dirty ease of production, Finale will probably remain the choice, at least among many music publishers.

Yes, that's the default. I'm not sure how you'd get unbeamed flagged eighths. There may be a way, but this may be one of the many things that Dorico can't do at this time without a painful workaround. It may be a lyric option setting since this would generally be a lyrics only kind of thing.motet wrote:If you type in 6/8 in Dorico, does it always beam 3+3?

If you type [2+3]/8 you will get 5/8 with grouping of 2+3. [3+2]/8 the other way around.
[4+2]/8 will result in 6/8 with 4+2 grouping, but [2+2+2]/8 will not give 6/8 with groups of 2, and [1+1+1+1+1+1]/8 will not give 6/8 with unbeamed 8-notes. Go figure.
[4+2]/8 will result in 6/8 with 4+2 grouping, but [2+2+2]/8 will not give 6/8 with groups of 2, and [1+1+1+1+1+1]/8 will not give 6/8 with unbeamed 8-notes. Go figure.
