I've decided to not use a "clef" when I write my drum-charts. But when I remove the clef there's a gap on the left bar line:



Is there any way to add a regular/normal thin bar line there?

Chose: display on single staves!!

I can't create left bar line at measure 17 (see photo) although I chose "display on single staves" in Document option.
I use Finale 2014.
Could anybody help, pls?

Welcome to the forum!

In your attached screen shot it seems like measure 17 is the third measure in a staff system
(the first measure in that system seems to be measure 15).

A so called “Left Barline” is only displayed when the measure is the first measure in a staff system.
In your screen shot measure 10 and measure 15 display a Left Barline because they both are beginning
a system.

To get a specific barline on the left side of a measure that does not begin a system, change the
(right) Barline in the previous measure.

I can create left bar line at measure 17 as your instruction with 1 dim line at the left and 1 bold line at the right.



Is there any way to create left bar line with 1 bold line at the left and 1 dim line at the right?



I can do it with Illustrator but I don't know if I can do it with Finale.

A highly unusual barline!

You can do it as a Custom Barline.

See the attached Finale 2014 document.

You can save my barline as a library, and load that library into your documents, Templates and
Default Documents.

I save your bar line in library but when I load library, nothing happens.


I can create the bar line by using custom and drawing it but when I close the file, there is no created bar line in "Shape Selection".


I want to keep the new created bar line in "Shape Selection" for next using or could you instruct me how to use your file, please?

Anybody has the same problem?

These steps work for me:

1) Open my document “Barline”.

2) File menu > Save Library…

3) In the dialog box Save Library, select “Shapes”, and click OK.
Give your library file a name and a place to live.
Close my document “Barline”.

4) Open your own document (e. g. The Time For Us).

5) File menu > Load Library…
Navigate to your library, and load it into your document.

6) Measure Tool.
Double-click the measure where you as (Right) Barline need the shape from the library file.

7) In the Measure Attributes, next to the “Barline” icons, click the button “Select…”.
A library is always added to bottom of the document’s own library items.
To find your loaded library shape you will have to scroll down to the bottom of the Shape Selection.
When you have found the custom barline shape, select it, and click the button “Select”.

9) Back in the Measure Attributes, click OK to return to the score.

You need to position a barline between the time signature and the first note, right?

Insert an empty measure before the first measure.
Use a staff style to hide the inserted empty measure’s Default Whole Rest.
In the Measure Attributes, choose the desired barline, de-select “Include in Measure Numbering”, and set the Measure Width to zero.

You need to hide the bass clef staff (= the left hand staff = the second staff) in the first 7 measures, right?

You can do so with a staff style “Force Hide Staff (Collapse)”.
