Do you want the quarter tone as an accidental (easy!), or as part of the key signature (much more involved)?
If the first, just create it as an expression, and apply as needed. Both quarter-tone sharp and flat can be found in the maestro font.

I'm not interested in using quarter tones in the key signature, but if there's a way of creating accidentals like I use sharps and flats with simple entry tool, and not expression tool, that would be cool. Using expression tool requires additional positioning in the score, if you know what I mean.

I suggest that you use the Special Tools Tool, the sub-tool Accidental Mover Tool.Slavicek wrote:What I want to achieve here is a simple sharp note in the playback and quarter tone sharp shape in the score, without pitchwheel value changes. Is it possible? I'm using Finale 2011.
Click in the measure, to make handles appear on all accidentals.
Drag-select the handle on the accidental you want to change.
Hit Shift-Return to open the dialog box Accidental Settings.
You can change both the font and the font character.

The quarter tone playback is done via expressions with the playback effect “Pitchwheel”.Slavicek wrote:Just being curious, if playback could perform the actual quarter tone pitches, would that be possible in soft synth only or Garritan as well?
You need two expressions:
one expression for bending the pitch to quarter tone playback,
and
another expression for re-setting the pitch back to “normal”.
This is possible with SoftSynth (as described in detail in an earlier thread).
If you can make Pitchwheel work with Garritan, then you can also get quarter tone playback with Garritan.

The first accidental from the right, three quarter flat, I cannot find in any of the Maestro fonts in Finale. Do you know if there is a way of finding it?

miker - a bit old post, but I've just noticed we may have misunderstood each other. I was looking for three quarter flat accidental, not three quarter sharp. As far as I can see in your attached image, three quarter sharp is displayed, and I couldn't find flats in Engraver font.

The November Font (which costs money) has dozens of microtonal and non-standard accidentals, including at least three variations of the ¾ flat.
