I've recently upgraded to Finale 2014, and I've been trying every method thinkable to mute the playback while entering notes.
I mainly use speedy entry, and sometimes simple entry for small edits.
I have de-selected Playback in both the speedy and simple entry menu's, and I've tried muting the channels in the instrument list from the Window>Score Manager menu.
I've also tried muting the audio tracks in the Window>Mixer window.
Nothing is working!
I use a separate program for my keyboard sound - I do not wish to hear the piano, brass, string, etc. sounds when I'm entering notes.

You can't just turn off your speakers?

This answer is a little late for philnitz, but it may help others. I had the same issue, and I want to listen to something else on my speakers while cleaning up scores, revising, etc. The solution is in two parts. (1) Click on Simple Entry tool, click on Simple Entry menu item, click on Simply Entry Options, deselect "Playback notes on entry", click "OK". (2) Click on Speedy Entry tool, click on Speedy Entry menu item, deselect "Playback".

I'm having the same issue on finale 26.3.1.643 and this solution doesn't work for me. Any suggestions?

MIDI/Audio -> MIDI Thru, set it to Off.
