I have used speedy entry for many years. My desktop PC has been upgraded from XP to Windows 7 [which may have nothing to do with the problem] and now I find that when I am entering a bar of common time (for example) there is not enough room to enter the music unless I click out of the bar and go back in. See examples. I have a feeling there is some I have forgotten to do.

It looks like the measure by default is too narrow.
Before entering notes I would begin by increasing the measure width, and saving.
When adding new (empty) measures, Finale copies the last measure.
This means that the new (empty) measures get the same width as the last measure.

@PeterT: This was promising; I widened the bars, saved and then added more bars. As soon as I used speedy entry to put in more notes the width of the bar suddenly reduced again and....
@PeterS: automatic spacing is on, but thank you as this was the thing I thought I had forgotten and it prompted me to find out where it was.
So, no joy as yet.
EDIT
I have just started a new project and Speedy entry is working as normal. I tested it by starting from a default document and also a Wizard document which is what I had done yesterday. The document from yesterday is still misbehaving but it seems to be just that one - phew I am glad about that.

Did you use an old document to adjust it in the way PeterT suggested? Then maybe you have to go to page view and update the layout, there might be too many measures per line...
I hope it is clear what I mean...

Indeed, I tried to edit the document. Actually I was in scroll view so there were not too many bars per line. I think it is just this document and I cannot now make Finale replicate the problem in new documents. Annoying for a while but I will soon complete the task.Peter S. wrote:Did you use an old document to adjust it in the way PeterT suggested? Thanks all.

Sorry - I spoke too soon. Probems again today. To illustrate the issue see the image.
I start a new default document OK
I enter music with Speedy Entry and advance to the next bar OK
I click out of the bar (as one might) the next bar instantly reduces in size
Entering music in that bar means I have limited space (I could manually widen it first)
I advance a bar and it is a helpful size
Click out and one bar has reduced in size.
I have checked auto spacing and all I can think of.
I attach the MUS file.
So when I said the other day that all seemed OK, I was not clicking out of the music.

I suspect that the culprit is “Automatic Music Spacing”.
When you exit an empty measure (= without entering notes into the measure), “Automatic Music Spacing” will space that measure as an empty measure (= squashing it).
But I am just guessing.
Examing your attached document does not give me info about “Automatic Music Spacing”
since “Automatic Music Spacing” is a program specific setting, not a document specific setting.
Try toggling “Automatic Music Spacing” off, and see what happens.
