I don't understand an aspect of staff resizing. I have attached two examples, "MedTest" and "ParaTest". In MedTest, staffs 1 & 2 are sized at 90%, but when printed out, they look larger than ParaTest, where staffs 1 & 2 are sized at 100%. I want staffs 1 & 2 in both examples to look the same, at about 90%. Staff 3 in ParaTest should look smaller than staffs 1 & 2. Thank you for your help. Mac 10.6, Finale 2011.

Should both examples look like "MedTest" - or should both examples look like "ParaTest"?

In Finale there are 3 different scalings at play when it comes to staff size:
Page Scaling
System Scaling
Staff Scaling

In the document "MedTest" the scalings are:
Page Scaling: 85 %
System Scaling: 100 %
Staff Scaling: 90 %
This means that the resulting scaling is 85 % * 90 % = 76.5 %
Do you need the resulting scaling to be 90 % ?

In the document "ParaTest" the scalings are:
Page Scaling: 86 %
System Scaling: 85 %
Staff Scaling: 100 %
This means that the resulting scaling is 86 % * 85 % = 73.1 %
Do you need the resulting scaling to be 90 % ?

I am not sure what you need, but in the attached document I have kept things simple by setting both
System Scaling and Staff Scaling to 100 %

To achieve a 90 % resulting scaling I have set the Page Scaling to 90 %.

I have set the Staff Scaling to 75 % for Staff 3.

I understand. I think I see where to click to control staff and page resizing, but I do not know exactly where to click to control system resizing. Each one of these parameters is changing the outcome .I've tried various spots to click but system resize doesn't come up. Where do I click for that?

I'm away from the computer now, so working from memory: try clicking BETWEEN the staves within a system, rather than on a staff.

From your description it sounds like you are not trying the context menu, but rather just plain (left-)clicking.

The context menu has the following menu items:
Help
Resize Page…
Resize System…
Resize Staff…
Resize Note or Rest…
Resize Notehead…

Some of these menu items may be greyed out, depending on where you are context-clicking.

Perhaps you do not understand the term context menu?
To get to a context menu (Mac OS X), hold down ctrl while clicking.
Also, your pointing device (= mouse? trackpad?) may (or may not) have ctrl-click programmed as a
right-click.
