Hi,
I'm editing some piano music in documents created over the past year or two, and find I can change text, but as soon as I try to add a new note to the score, a warning window pops up and says "Unhandled exception caught." As soon as I click "okay" the program quits. I've tried this in several documents and it happens every time. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Rebekah

Please specify the steps you've already taken, so that we can rule out things.

Have you e. g.
- trashed Finale’s Preferences file?
A corrupt Preferences file can cause many weird problems.

I'm checking to see. Hubby will know.

Also, I've tried several times to update my user profile. I have no ICQ or anything like that to fill in. But I did change some things, like that I'm using Finale 2011, and I'm on a Macbook Pro, OS X Yosemite. None of my updates have transferred into my signature, even though I've submitted them.

Hello there,

I have the same problem, I guess. After upgrading to Yosemite I now cannot change any of my .mus! I can open them, but if I want to change something, the info: "Unhandled exception caught" and finale quits. I deleted the hole software including all preferences in my Library-folder and all Garritan-addons.

This is crazy! What can I do?
Thanks for answers, please excuse my english, I´m German :-)

Its me again:
I mean: After knowing, that finale crashes, I reinstalled the software. But its the same.

I´m lucky, because I can create new .mus! But I need the old one, too...

Thanks!

From your description it sounds like the problem is document specific.

I suggest that you attach a (small) Finale .mus sample document here for the gurus to examine.

This forum does not accept attachments with the Finale file name extension.
Before you can attach a .mus document in this forum, you must compress it, e. g. as a .zip file.
And the file size must not be more than max. 100 KB.

I am unable to reproduce the problem.

Your document opened fine in my own copy of Finale 2011, and I was able to make changes to the document - without getting the message “Unhandled exception caught”.

If I understand you correctly, the problem does not happen in new documents - only in old documents, right?

Since the problem does not happen to me, I suspect that the culprit must be found in your hardware, or in your operating system (I am still on Mac OS X 10.9).

I guess that it is time to contact the folks in Tech Support at MakeMusic.

I will confirm that it works properly for me on OS 10.10.3.

I was able to change pitches, delete and enter notes.

Are you able to copy the entire document without the crash? If you can, try pasting it into a new document.

As Peter said, maybe you should contact Tech Support on this.

Has anyone gotten a solution to this issue? I am experiencing the problem when I attempt to play back. I have deleted the preferences file as many have suggested and to no such luck. I have also tried to copy the measures into a new file only to have the program crash when going to load the score before being able to even paste anything into it.

I am operating on Final 2011.

I'm having this problem too. Originally I had entered the music into a template I created a long time ago, and when I hit play I got the “Unhandled exception caught” popup and when I clicked OK it crashed the program. After reading about this problem in this forum, I tried creating a new Finale document with the same full band setup, copied the music in the old file and pasted it into my new one. When I tried to play the new file, I didn’t get the “Unhandled exception caught” popup, the program just crashed immediately. I’m operating Finale 2012 on Mac OS Yosemite. Any further suggestions or help?

Unfortunately, once you upgrade to Yosemite any version of Finale older than 2014 becomes useless and won't work with that OS. You either need to upgrade your Finale or revert your OS back to something prior to Yosemite.
