I am following the Harmonic Analysis instructions in the Finale online manual.

I would love to post a URL to this topic but for some reason the Finale Forum tells me that I am not allowed to post URLs yet.

According to the Finale online manual, manually-entered Roman numeral analyses need to be typed in using the Lyrics tool, and the special Finale Numerics font.

I cannot figure out how to enter the Roman numeral analysis symbol for a diminished chord in first inversion. I have attached a diagram.

What Finale does is to superimpose the diminished symbol and the 6 superscript symbol. What I need of course is to have the diminished symbol appear alongside the superscript 6.

What am I doing wrong? Can someone reproduce this and give me a precise sequence of keystrokes to construct the correct symbol?

I'm using Finale 2014d.v5545 on Mac OS X 10.10.4.

I don't know harmonic analysis, so I'm not sure what is considered correct. It seems that you can't have the 6 following the o. Could you have the 6 either above or below the o? This, Finale can do.

If you enter Vii, and then Shift+6 and K, you will get what I show as sample 1.

Vii, Shift+K and 6 will give you what I show as sample 2.

Note that the number with the Shift is entered from the number row above the keyboard, NOT from the numberpad. This gets it into the upper position.

@miker, thanks, but neither of those produce the acceptable, correct Roman numeral analysis symbol. It needs to look like my example. Both the diminished symbol "°" and the "6" must be superscripts, alongside each other. If one is made into a subscript, then the symbol you get does not represent a seventh-scale degree diminished triad in first inversion according to what's used in all the standard music theory textbooks.

And for what it's worth, the correct example I provided in the JPG is something I created in Sibelius.

You might want to send that in to tech support.

You can get the desired layout by entering a ‘not-displaying’ character between the circle and the 6.

I think that character #96 gives a satisfying separation.
In text fonts character #96 is the grave accent, but in the Finale Numerics font character #96 is a ‘not-displaying’ character.

See the attached graphic.
