I'm editing some 18th century vocal music, and I've noticed that when setting lyrics, word extension lines can take two forms in the case of a very long melisma: either a dashed line (continuation of the hyphen used to separate syllables) or a continuous coloured line (when the final syllable of a word, not followed by a hyphen, is used in the melisma). Is there any way to make the continuous coloured line a dashed line?

I do not know of an “automatic” solution.
Two ideas:
1) Turn off the Automatic Word Extensions, and add “false” word extensions with the Smart Shape Tool.
With the sub-tool Custom Line Tool you can create a custom dashed line in which you can specify the dash length as well as the distance between the dashes.
2) End the word with a hyphen and attach a “non-breaking space” (= character #160) to the entry at the end of the melisma.
