I have Finale 2014.5 using Windows. If I name a part "Clarinet 2&3, Finale adds a number "2" after my part name in the printouts. The same happens to any instrument if there are more than one. For instance, if I name a part "Snare Drum" and then another part "Bass Drum & Cymbals", Finale will add a "1" to the first and a "2" to the second. I don't want this and I can't get rid of it. Why is this and how can I avoid it?

It is a staff specific setting:

Window menu > ScoreManager

Click the chiclet Instrument List.

In the Instrument List, highlight the staff that should not display automatic instrument numbers.

At the bottom of the Instrument List chiclet, go to the “Staff Settings for Selected Instrument”.
You may have to expand the view of “Staff Settings for Selected Instrument” (click the small triangle).

De-select the option “Auto-Number Style”.

- Repeat the steps above for each staff that should not display automatic instrument numbers.
