I'm using Finale 2014.5 in Windows and I'm writing a piece for full orchestra. Although I chose "Trumpets in Bb" and that name shows up properly in the score, the linked part show up as "Trumpet in C" in the part name area and will print as such. The music on that part itself is correctly transposed for Bb trumpet. What am I doing incorrectly?

That name is the Staff Name.

That name is the Part Name.

I you go to
Score Manager > Instrument List
you can see both the Part Name and the Staff Name.

To fix the Part Name you can go to
Document menu > Manage Parts…
You may have to click the button {Edit Part Definition >>}.

Thanks, Peter. I'm not sure why there would be a difference between the Staff name and the part name, but that takes care of the problem.

It may not be something you need often, but here is an example:

A two-staff Percussion part, to be played by one percussion player.
The first staff could be named “Marimba”, and the second part could be named “Timpani”.

The part name could be e. g. “Marimba & Timpani”.
