Hey all,
What's the quickest way to navigate through the Main Tool Palette with Keyboard Shortcuts? My online research hasn't yielded any results. For example, I'm in Speedy Entry, then I need to go to the Expression Tool, then to the Smart Shape Tool, etc...I'd really like to avoid constantly dragging my mouse to the MTP to keep changing. It's so convenient to hit ESC whenever I need the Selection Tool. Anybody out there know the shortcuts for all the other tools?
Thanks in advance!
David

Is there any way for the program to remember the F key mapping from one session to the next?

The Mac system Preferences can define shortcuts associated with menu items of a specific program. They remain active.
System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts.
System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts.

I do the same and have my function keys mapped to the most important tools, grouped in threes by type. However, I ran into problems with loss of focus in moving back and forth from a pdf to a Finale file, so I changed over to a macro system with Keyboard Maestro. I couldn't be happier.

You have to create them in System Prefs, as said. I did create a spread sheet of key commands that Finale uses, which showed me what was left over for my own use. Apart from the F keys, Command CTRL [A-Z] is mostly free.Davidabb wrote:Anybody out there know the shortcuts for all the other tools?
Don't forget that double clicking with the Selection Tool on a lyric syllable invokes the Lyric Tool; on an expression invokes the Expressions Tool, etc.
And if you did use Simple Entry, there are ways of adding articulations, expressions, and changing key, time, and clef without leaving SimpleEntry!

Also, you can use shortcuts that include more than one modifier key.BuonTempi wrote:… I did create a spread sheet of key commands that Finale uses, which showed me what was left over for my own use. Apart from the F keys, Command CTRL [A-Z] is mostly free …
Obviously this requires you to remember, exactly which modifier keys to hold down.
My own solution is that I - in my own custom shortcuts - hold down all four modifier keys.
In that way I always get un-used key combinations.
And I do not have a problem remembering, which modifier keys to hold down.

For me, Windows mind you, even though I have setup the F keys for some documents (they are document specific) and have setup macros with AHK, I just click on the Main Tool Palette icons. They are always open on my screen, and I don't have to remember anything, just move the mouse and press a button. No great hardship for me!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I use the mouse for some things, like Simple Entry notes, and things with palette icons, and keyboard shortcuts for other things, like Score Manager that require several layers of menu dropdowns. I am not a Finale professional, just a hobbyist.

A bit off-topic, but in this context it is also good to know that you in the Selection Tool can double click on things to enter their respective tool. I use this quite much. It is very handy with lyrics - if you double click a syllable you will not only get the Lyrics tool, but also the right verse. Or, double clicking a note will switch to simple entry and the layer where the note resides.

Harpsi,
Yes, using the Selection Tool to double click on an object to select its underlying tool is yet another time I use the mouse quite frequently.
