Hello. I am using Finale 2014 and what I need to do is write exercises. The problem is that I want to add a new, independent staff which is not linked to what I am already writting. To explain it better I need to do the same thing the enter button does when typing a text. Move to next line and begin a new staff. I hope I am explaining this right, sorry for bad grammar.

Welcome to the forum!
Perhaps I do not understand the problem.
Can’t you just add more measures, and lock them into the next system?
What is the problem, exactly?
If I misunderstand you, then I apologize.

Why not look at the 2- and 4-staff examples, in the Templates>Education folder? You should be able to alter them to suit your needs.

I found a way but it takes a while. I create the parts separately and then merge them together in a new sheet and then I configure the page layout to adjust. I know for certain there is a way to make this easier though. I will try your suggestions, thank you

This is the problem I am talking about. If they are not separate the thing I want to change in the new staff (exercise in my case) affects the previous. I want it to be completely new staff with no link to previous one

Are you talking about the cautionary time signature (3/4) at the end of the first system?Sfardaklas wrote:… This is the problem I am talking about. Try this:
Measure Tool.
Double-click the measure at the end of the first system (= the measure with the cautionary time signature).
The dialog box Measure Attributes appears.
In the Measure Attributes, select the option “Hide Cautionary Clefs, Key and Time Signatures”.

Ok ty for the help but still I really need to be able to separate the staves or combining them at will and I know the program can do it.

You can break your exercises wherever you want, but you will have to make changes to the first and last measures of each "section," showing or hiding things like courtesy changes, or time and key signatures. The program will not do it automatically.
