I'm writing an orchestra piece, with a movement in 4/4 + 3/4 + 2/4 compound meter.
In this movement, I'd like to have the triangle perform one quarter note per measure,
BUT I'd like this to be left to the discretion of the performer when that one note should
happen.
Is there a way to notate this? Best, is there a way for this to sound during playback??
To be clear, say, in measure 1, the triangle plays on... beat 2. In the next measure,
the triangle plays on... beat 7. The next measure, the triangle plays on... beat 5.
And so on, 'randomly', for the movement.
Appreciated,

No. Finale can only do what you tell it to do. It can't make "random" decisions.

Good to know, thanks.
I'm OK with simply putting directions in the score, with the hopes some day it will
be performed live.
Just thought I'd ask.

Perhaps just something like "sempre ad lib" would work. (A la Heisenberg?)

That would certainly inform real musicians, but I doubt that HP would be able to interpret it!
