Hi all,
It appears that I have misunderstood a fundamental part of Finale 2014. I've just been creating a new score with a percussion part, and when I went to select the correct MIDI map, I noticed that the only choices were those from my previous work. When writing my previous piece, I removed all of the MIDI maps that weren't relevant to THAT piece, thinking this would only apply to THAT piece. However, it appears that when you remove a MIDI map, you remove it permanently from the program!
Does anyone know of a way that I can get all of the default midi maps back into the program? And furthermore, can anyone suggest a better way of approaching MIDI maps moving forward?
Many thanks,
ANDREW

Andrew,
Since you're on a Mac, you can use Time Machine to go back to when you had them, and restore from there.

Thanks Mike. That makes sense, and I did consider that earlier. The only problem is that I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Are you able to quickly tell me where I might go to find them? Is it an .xml file or something similar? I'm sorry, I've never done anything like this before in terms of percussion maps! Or even a link to a previous explanation if it's too detailed.
Thanks so much!
Cheers
ANDREW

Thanks Motet.
So, just to clarify, a percussion LAYOUT can be removed from piece to piece, ie all of those things listed as 'Rowloff Cymbals, Concert Snare Drum', as they will not be permanently removed from the program (and they'll reappear in a new score), but percussion MIDI MAPS must be left as they are, and then the best way around this is to create your own maps from scratch? Or am I missing something here as well?
Thanks,
ANDREW

You're right that in one case, the percussion layouts, deleting a layout just removes it as a choice, but in the other case you're deleting the MIDI map itself. I personally don't think it's worth it trying to neaten up like that.
Also, be aware that if you've made custom MIDI maps and you move Finale and all your .mus files to another machine, you have to move the XML file containing the maps, too.

Indeed the Percussion MIDI Maps are program specific (not document specific).
The .xml files are located in the folder MIDI Device Annotation.
