Symbols Maestro Font
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
When I go into Symbols and select one, I see the section below that says "Maestro font" and below that a box containing a character (in my case a "∫") then to the right I see "Integral (U+228) Is this something I can type on the keyboard to produce the Maestro character? If so, How do I type it.

Nick,
Give me a little more detail on exactly what you're doing. I'm sure we can figure it out!
Where are you going into Symbols? As a text insert?

Yes, you can do it on the Mac. There are two steps.
1. In System Preferences > Input Sources, click on the + icon to add "Unicode Hex Input" from the list of keyboard layouts. This will now be an option in the "menulet" at the top right of the screen. (The other option should be your usual keyboard layout.)
When you want to select a Unicode character, switch to the Unicode Hex Input layout. With this active, hold down ALT (otherwise known as Option) and type the numbers (include the leading zero in your example 0228).
However, it's probably much easier to use a graphical character chooser, like Finale's Insert Symbol, or PopChar (third-party), or Apple's "Show Emoji and Symbols" (also under the keyboard menulet). Furthermore, when I enter that Unicode in a text font, I get Ȩ, which you should be able to select just by holding down the capital letter E and choosing option 7.

228 is not a hexadecimal number in this case, though. Is there "add Unicode decimal input"?BuonTempi wrote:..click on the + icon to add "Unicode Hex Input" from the list of keyboard layouts...
Thank you. I knew there was a way but I was confused as to how it's done.BuonTempi wrote:Yes, you can do it on the Mac. There are two steps.

PopChar, as much as I love it, failed in this case. For some reason (at least on my system) it isn't pasting in characters correctly from anything except the Basic Latin group.
Still, I was able to solve the problem of the double flat trill. On a finale doc, I chose the text tool and used Insert>Symbol to place a double flat (no shortcut available.) I selected and copied it.
I went to the Smart Line editor, and duplicated the trill flat smart line. Edit, delete the single flat, paste the double flat. I also added 10 evpu space after the text.
Result:
