You'll probably have to add "Space at Start of Measure" with the Measure Tool in order to make room for the Time Signature. It would be interesting to see an example of what you're trying to improve - I'm having a hard time understanding the need for more/less space.
Unfortunately, I can't show the example, suffice it to say that:
1. I must maintaining note size at 100% for 9x12
2. Totale pages must be 5
3. the measure in question, in 12/8 time has many 1/16th notes with many of them having single and double accidents, which makes it very hard to read. This measure, in normal circumstances would be contained on one system. This would make the measure less squeezed and more readable. Unfortunately, I have to maintain 2 measures in the system, thereby keeping the page count to 5.
After adjusting the page margins, moving the notes and accidentals to be more readable and less squeezed, the beginning of the measure ended up too close to the time signature, by moving the time signature closer to the key signature, I created more breathing room and the system looks more balanced. If I had my way, I would dedicate the one measure to the system, but I don't, so I have to make due and still maintains a breathable and balanced look.
I did hide the time signature and created a text expression. This worked quite well. Thanks
