Hi all,

I have a melody with lyrics and I'm using some triplets (with bracket and number). When the bracket is under the notes, it crashes into the lyrics.

Is it best to lower the lyrics, or should I flip the bracket so that it goes above the staff (on the "wrong side")?

Just wondering what others think...

Cheers,
Hector Pascal.

It would be best to see an example, but I'm guessing that flipping the triplet would work fine.

The top line shows the triplets flipped so that they appear above staff.
The bottom line shows the triplets in default position, necessitating either flipping bracket, or lowering lyrics.

Personally, I prefer to keep the lyrics close to the notes, so top line is my choice.

Unless you have a real stickler of an editor, go ahead and flip them.

If I base it on Gould, tuplets always go above the staff in vocal music.
It is a practice I fully support.
