OK, this is driving me crazy. I have been trying for a few hours to get this right. I feel like I am following the directions on the "how to" page [ https://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/Fin ... re_numbers ]

But I get almost nothing.

I want to put measure numbers in square or rectangles on the following measures:

5, 8, 15, 21,26,37,47,54, 61 and 65.

Frustrating.

Maybe we need to see a sample file to check what you are doing. Or, a screen shot of the setup window so we can examine the settings.

You aren't saying what you are getting as a result. Are the wrong measures not numbered? Are the numbers not in boxes? Is there nothing showing?

I am getting nothing but then when I click on measures / show measure numbers, I get just measure 5 with no square around it even though I checked that off. And it's only above the soprano. I need them above the piano part too . It's an SATB with piano piece.

I will be away until Monday when I can start fresh and not be as frustrated. Then I will try again and post here if it's not working right. Thanks

To display the measure numbers on the piano, just open the Staff Attributes window of its right hand staff (Staff Tool, double click on the staff) and under Items to display, select Measure Numbers.

OK, well, I was able to get a measure number done, but that's it. I am also pretty sure I did it wrong.

The first image below shows what my setup page looked like and the second image is how it came out.

However, I have several other measure numbers to add and they are not at regular intervals. I have to add: 8, 15,21,26, 37, 47,54,61 and 65

Some guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The way your Edit Measure Regions window is set up is not efficient.
It creates 1 measure number, 5, and the region counts 1 measure (5 to 5).
With this method, you will have to create as many regions as numbers.

As the numbers you want are not in a logical sequence, but irregular, you cannot use the "Show on every x measures" function, either.

It would be better to create a global region (Includes measure 1 to xxx, Starting Number = 1, with enclosure, etc...), and then use the manual method to show/hide the numbers where you want them or not.
• To hide an unwanted number, right click on it (in the Measure tool), it brings a contextual many where you can select "Always Hide Number" .
• To "force" a measure number to display where there was none, select the measure, and in the Measure menu, select "Show Measure Numbers".

It's possible I'm misunderstanding something, but why aren't you using Expressions from the "Rehearsal Marks" category to enter the boxed rehearsal numbers? It's a lot easier that way.

I was able to get the measure numbers boxed on each measure. Then for all the measures I did not need, I hid them. I'm sure there's an easier way, but it worked and you put me in the right track so thank you :-)

As for the rehearsal markings, I'll have to try that method in the future.

The expressions method (automatic sequence using measure numbers) will definitely be faster, especially when combined with a metatool.
