I am playing around with Smart score pro - . it made a tiff file from a PDF test of a lead sheet ( NOT a scan). I imported the tiff file into Finale. I had to reenter lyrics and delete some unwanted measures at the end that we don't need.
Unfortunately, the score now has has systems spread over 4 pages. I can't get everything to fit easily on 2 pages. Is this a product of being a demo. Does smart score just make a tiff that you import into finale?
The PDF to XML program ( another program that was recommended ) demo looks pretty good on the one page but have not tried to edit yet.
I'm really trying to grasp how well it will work, so I assume I'm doing something wrong.
I'll purchase which ever works, but this is frustrating.
Thanks

Finale, at least F25.2 cannot import a TIF file. How did you accomplish this task? SmartScore does create a TIF, but you need to run it through the recognition phase, then save as MusicXML and import the XML into Finale. I will defer to someone like moderator MikeR, who is more familiar with SS than I am.woodsglen wrote:I am playing around with Smart score pro - . it made a tiff file from a PDF test of a lead sheet ( NOT a scan). If all you did was to run it through SmartScore Pro and put the TIFF into Finale, you missed the point of the pro version. You would remain there, and perform whatever edits were needed, before exporting as an XML file and importing that into Finale.

AFAIK, TIF(F) format files cannot be "put" in Finale directly.miker wrote:...put the TIFF into Finale...

You can place TIFF files on a Finale page with the Graphics Tool.Charles Lawrence wrote:AFAIK, TIF(F) format files cannot be "put" in Finale directly.

Yes BuonTempi, but all that does is place a graphic (TIFF) on the Finale page. Any music in the graphic so placed cannot be edited by Finale. Right?BuonTempi wrote:You can place TIFF files on a Finale page with the Graphics Tool.Charles Lawrence wrote:AFAIK, TIF(F) format files cannot be "put" in Finale directly.

Thanks Mike,
I see now, by going back to pre V25 versions of Finale, that there was a "File->Import->TIFF file..." option. This would automatically bring up either SS Lite, or Pro if you had installed it. You would then need to run it through the recognition phase of SS and save it as a MusicXML file which would then need to be imported into Finale to end up with a document that could be edited. IMHO this can hardly be deemed Finale importing a TIFF since a 3rd party software is required.
I did not recall the TIFF option in previous versions, since I quit using them when F25 came out. Of course it is not present anymore since the MM change in scanning philosophy implemented in F25.

Charles,
If you have the Pro version of SmartScore, you can do a lot of editing there, before you bring it into Finale as an XML. That's what separates the Pro from the Lite versions. A lot of the editing is easier in SSP., and you get a much cleaner score into Finale for further tweaking and formatting.
