Problem printing 2-up in Acrobat Pro. (Solved)
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I have a score were each page is 9x12. I'm tying to print 2-up on 12x18 in Acrobat Pro. Not having much success.
My printer is set up for custom page size 12x18
For page size, I click Actual size.
On Multiple tab I select 2 per sheet, page order Horizontal and orientation and Portrait. The graphic shows it correct but the print result is off center. It starts printing about 1/3 from the left edge. I used to be able to do this with no problem on 11x17.

Just a guess - is your Printer Page Setup (File Menu) set up for 9x12 page size?

Why not use Preview instead of Acrobat Pro?
With Finale 25, I am finding Preview easier. You still need a printer connected for it to work properly.

A virtual printer such as CUPS-PDF will perform the same function when using Preview as a real one.MikeHalloran wrote:Why not use Preview instead of Acrobat Pro?

Third of an inch, or third of the page? If the former, then it sounds like your paper size has a "print area", and Acrobat is placing the page on that. When you create the Custom paper size, make sure that the margins are set to zero. (What Apple calls the "Non-Printable Area".)NickG wrote:It starts printing about 1/3 from the left edge. I used to be able to do this with no problem on 11x17.
Thanks, I'll try that.BuonTempi wrote:Third of an inch, or third of the page? If the former, then it sounds like your paper size has a "print area", and Acrobat is placing the page on that. What is your point? Finale needs to see a printer in the system—virtual or otherwise. My networked printer works just fine, BTW, despite what the checklist says.David Ward wrote:A virtual printer such as CUPS-PDF will perform the same function when using Preview as a real one.MikeHalloran wrote:Why not use Preview instead of Acrobat Pro?

My point is that Acrobat Pro can be a pia in this situation. It's an essential tool for my work but, with Finale, I find that Preview performs much better.

My point was agreement with you, plus my stating that Preview-generated PDFs work very well from Finale even if there is no physical printer connected (just in case anyone reading the thread was in doubt).MikeHalloran wrote:… …What is your point?… …

Turns out my driver was not up to date. I just assumed that when Mac OS was updated, they would update standard print drivers as well. Now I know better.

Apple separated print drivers and the OS some time ago, to keep the OS "lean". Launching Mac App Store and checking for updates when your printer is connected and turned on should trigger a search for updates.NickG wrote:Turns out my driver was not up to date. Funny you should say that. My printer was connected and I did exactly that and no updates appeared. I'll try it again when Mac update the OS again.BuonTempi wrote:Apple separated print drivers and the OS some time ago, to keep the OS "lean". It depends on the printer. HP drivers can only be done through Apple. Canon printer drivers often need to be downloaded from canon.jp. I've not used an Epson in years.
OS updates will retain the printer drivers but new installs may not load them (how I found out about Canon).

You can download Canon drivers directly from Apple. Also, EPSON, Brother, Ricoh, Xerox, Samsung and others. It might depend on whether your model is supported. There's a list here:

Of course, it depends on the model.
Support for many Canon printers was dropped when OS 10.9 was released. My customers who bought Canon all-in-ones from Apple with their iMacs were furious when a school district tech did clean installs of Yosemite and no one could print anymore. Fortunately, navigating canon.jp, it's possible to locate and download the Mavericks print and scan drivers. They still work fine in Sierra. Why Apple doesn't include them is a mystery to me.
I worked with Apple to resolve a number of issues with HP printers and scanners and Image Capture.app when Apple screwed it up with OS 10.7–10.8.1. It was finally resolved with 10.8.2 and has worked great ever since. There have been three HP printer driver updates from Apple since. Unlike Canon, you cannot download current drivers for the Mac directly from HP. If you have a printer too old for Software Update to recognize it, time to get a new one.
