All instruments forte
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
When proofreading I need to hear all instruments equally, at least adjust them by the mixer. However, there are numerous expressions that are used badly: for instance p was duplicated and became sfz, that makes no sense. Or the Playback is set to "none".
How to completely ignore in the current score all hairpins, expressions and articulations, and set the dynamics with the mixer slides?

To make hairpins, not play back, disable Human Playback - the Smart Shape Tool does not in itself give hairpins a playback effect.OCTO wrote:… How to completely ignore in the current score all hairpins, expressions and articulations, and set the dynamics with the mixer slides?
I do not know of a quick way to make expressions and articulations, not play back.
I would probably edit them, one by one, and set the playback effect to None.
Perhaps someone else will jump in here with some ideas.

Is there any plugin (JW?) that changes all Articulations and all Expressions at once?Peter Thomsen wrote:To make hairpins, not play back, disable Human Playback - the Smart Shape Tool does not in itself give hairpins a playback effect.OCTO wrote:… How to completely ignore in the current score all hairpins, expressions and articulations, and set the dynamics with the mixer slides?

Ignoring all dynamic changes would be great to have implemented in Finale. I have found this post back to 2005. Perhaps having two indentical documents open, one that will be edited, another for playback only.

Maybe to use two computers at the same time, pressing Play at the same time.
That is a wonderful Finale-workaround!

I have disabled that, but they still play.Peter Thomsen wrote: To make hairpins, not play back, disable Human Playback - the Smart Shape Tool does not in itself give hairpins a playback effect.

I'm not expert at anything to do with playback, but have you set HP to 'None' in Playback Controls? I'm not sure if that's even relevant here, but…

To "neutralize" playback for expressions, another idea : the JW Change plugin -> Expressions -> Playback Assignment allows you to attach the expressions of a selected region to a layer which is not used (hopefully, there is one...).

The better way is to use the filter: select all - clean selected items - Markings.Ronald J Brown wrote:You can select all hairpins at once and delete them. Same with dynamics. Just don't save the file with them deleted.

You're not doing something right. I don't use HP, and hairpins never play back. Maybe you did the "incorporate HP data" or whatever it is at some point. Use the delete filter to remove all MIDI data.

Just remember not to save the copy with the deletions in it.
Or save it with another name. Perhaps, file_name_No Dynamics.
