slurs attached to beats
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
Why can't slurs be attached to beats?
I want to use slurs "to nothing" within glissandos, but every time I resize the measure they don't stretch.

I am not sure why you would use a slur “to nothing”?
Why not use a tie “to nothing” instead?
Anyway, you can slur to a note, and then hide the note.

Hm, tie to nothing seems to be a good ide. I will try.Peter Thomsen wrote:I am not sure why you would use a slur “to nothing”?

But why do we have slurs attached to measures - option?

Select the Slur Tool, go to the Smart Shape Menu, and choose "Attach to Measures". Does this work for you? Don't forget to switch back to "Attach to Notes".

Yes, but when you resize the measure it doesn't follow. It keeps same size.N Grossingink wrote:Select the Slur Tool, go to the Smart Shape Menu, and choose "Attach to Measures". Does this work for you? Don't forget to switch back to "Attach to Notes".

Take a look at the beat attached slur in the attached Finale document.OCTO wrote:… Yes, but when you resize the measure it doesn't follow. It keeps same size.
For me, this slur does not “keep same size”.

Your slur does work but mine doesn't. No idea why.Peter Thomsen wrote:Take a look at the beat attached slur in the attached Finale document.OCTO wrote:… Yes, but when you resize the measure it doesn't follow. It keeps same size.

When I click on his slur, the notes don't get highlighted. It must be other way.motet wrote:I suspect Peter used "Attach to Notes" but then dragged the right end of the slur afterwards. "Attach to Beats" doesn't appear to work for me.

OCTO,
I am a little confused.
According to your forum profile you are using Mac.
But in the video I see a Windows interface.
* Are you using Mac or Windows?
I can not explain why the beat attached slur works for me, and not for you.
Perhaps it is a difference between Mac Finale and Windows Finale?

Yes, simply “Attach to Beats”.
However, I am using Finale v25.

My attachment was a Finale document.
Perhaps you mean motet’s picture?
I think that motet is using F2014.5 - but I could be wrong.

Peter Thomsen,
BTW, you can now upload/download MUSX files directly without having to encapsulate them in a ZIP file, or add ZIP to the end of the file name. I'm sure you must be aware of this.

Yes, I am using Mac. But I installed Windows 7 on my Mac for this extreme project, just because on OS X my Finale is terribly slow. I am unambe to work. So therefore Windows on Mac.Peter Thomsen wrote:OCTO,

BTW, Mac is a hardware. OS X is an operative system.
I will try these slurs once I boot back to OS X.
