Am I adjusting the note head positions and stem directions for situations like the following needlessly, because there is a setting or plug-in that takes care of it?

Not as far as I know, but damn, I wish there were. I don't have nearly as many as you do, but it sure would be nice to have a setting for that.

Jari's JWChange plugin can do most if not all of what you want. Not available for v25 yet. But for 2014.5, just fine.

Thanks so much, Zuill, that works very well and I will use that approach from now on for large groups in particular.
I didn't phrase my question clearly enough, however. I am trying to determine if Finale can take care of these things automatically, that is, sense when the notes need to be offset and stems reversed and then accomplish it, because otherwise I am going to propose this as a feature request at MM.

Setting, not that I know of. I suppose a feature request would be in order. However, not every situation is exactly the same, so even after using the plugin, I have to do adjustments. Even with automatic adjustment for seconds and unisons available in Finale, there are often adjustments to be made.

In that case, Zuill, I will make a feature request. Thanks for your help.

Oh, I would DEFINITELY support that feature request! This is completely normal notation; not even one of those strange or unusual things...

Thanks for your enthusiastic support Christopher. I will definitely post this.
