MakeMusic forum

I glanced at the new MakeMusic forum. Not much has improved. But I saw a piece of nonsensical advice from a MM employee (one Kevin M): when deleting the preferences file, drag it to the trash and empty the trash so I created a new account to chime in. (Not sure why he didn't advise the person with the problem to use the new reset feature, but perhaps he didn't have the latest version--no way to tell there, as far as I know.) But going back to the forum, I was prompted to log in again. I clicked the Log In button, and was taken far afield on MM's website. I logged in (with "keep me logged in") but after navigating back to the forums again I was again not logged in! I tried twice and gave up.

I probably shouldn't bother, but what's the secret? I fear for the future of this program with such ineptness.

motet,

I can only say that I have been signing in to MakeMusic’s forum regularly, and I have not experienced the problem you describe.

I have selected the option “Remember me” so that I do not have to enter my user name and password.
When I click on “Sign in”, I get signed in, and I am not taken to another web page “far afield on MM's website”.

Same experience as Motet for me. I tried to log in and it kept bouncing me around. I thought it was just me. Very wonky behavior. It appears they are doing everything they can to discourage people from posting.

I click the "sign in" link in the forums (makemusic.zendesk.com). There is a link at the upper right corner, and at the bottom (I've tried both). After signing in, I'm taken to

https://account.makemusic.com/Account/

where I then must click on Finale, then Support, then Community, then Problems and Questions, at which point I'm no longer logged in. Happens with both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Perhaps only the Macintosh browser works?

No, Zuill is on Windows.

And he has the same problem as I do.

I am signing in to MM’s forum with the Google Chrome browser (in Mac OS).

I get the same problem with Chrome (Windows) and on my iPhone (Safari).

I am not using my main MM account, which is tied to my registered copies. My identity is no big secret, but I wanted a quasi-anonymous account in the forums like we have here and like we had on the old site. That's the only think I can think of. But I think I'll simply not darken their door.

Edit: tried my main account, which works, so I guess it's something to do with my new one, or the new sign-up process doesn't work right.

That's exactly what happened to me. I created a second account just for using the new forum. I think the confusion might be because there might be duplications between the 2 accounts that confuses the MakeMusic account login process.

In my case there's really nothing to connect the two, so I don't think that's it. Either it doesn't work if you don't have a license, or new sign-ups don't work at all.

Same here. I click on the link in the upper right to sign in—anywhere else, it leads me 'round red robin's barn.

To call it disorganized is an understatement.

I feel sorry for those who need help. Hopefully they'll do a web search and find us.

A lot of misinformation there, or just bad advice, and some of it from the powers that be. They might be novices when it comes to using Finale, or whatever. It is quite entertaining reading, however, if one needs either a good mystery or a good laugh.

Friends,
I think that Finale is in decay and almost completely dying. There was little improved last years, and really nothing truly fixed. I think they will continue keeping Finale on stand-by until there is not revnue. Between version 2005 until now there were introduced linked parts, unicode and smart hairpins.
A lot of bad implemented algorigthms (particularly in note spacing and object spacing) will NEVER be fixed - but it could for all these years. Between 2012 and 2017 - five years: so lasted Dorico development from zero. They could re-code Finale in a more modern code and implement many exciting things with already product that generates a revnue. I think Finale is almost dead. I am deeply sad for this feeling, but I hope I will be surprised.

Interesting. I've been logging on and posting many Feature Requests at the MM Forum without problems, and so far they have been answered in a respectful, knowledgable, and sometimes extensive way. Robert Paterson (edit: Patterson) has also posted several requests.

I also reported a bug on their Problem Forum and received a response within 15 minutes. The next interaction took a day with a personal email requesting a file illustrating the problem. I await their next move.

They are slow but seem to be trying. I will continue to report bugs and feature requests, support others who do so, and hope that others will do the same.

Yes, the feature request section is the best part of the new MM "forum"

That's Robert Paterson, not Robert Patterson who has created Finale Plugins, correct?

Sorry for misspelling your name, Robert Patterson. I had assumed it was "the" Robert Patterson, but I might be wrong.

I glanced at the Feature Requests forum. Looks like it's Robert Patterson of the plug-ins.

Michael Johnson of MM does seem to respond to suggestions, so that's good.

I suspect that it is “the” Robert Patterson (the Finale plug-in developer).

And I think it is also “the” Robert Patterson who is active here:

Since the composer Robert Paterson (one t) has also posted on the MakeMusic forum (at least the old one, anyway), I thought I would ask.

P.S.: This Robert Paterson: http://www.finalemusic.com/blog/finale- ... -paterson/

I just received a response confirming that I had indeed found a memory bug involving the text tool and that it would be brought to the attention of the developers who are now concerned about improving Finale's "drawing and performance capabilities" but that no exact time frame could promised.

I guess I'm cynical, but that is always their response when you report a bug, so don't get too excited.

What has happened to the bugs we reported 10 years ago? Some of them are still around.
