Is it possible to select a measure and clear all entries in one layer only (for instance only Layer 4), and to keep all entries in other layers?

Good, I have used that function.

However, I find it slow. I have a very large document. Basically, I wait 20-30 seconds for the switch between/to show current and show all.

With Simple Entry, highlight the last note in the passage you want to clear, press delete and continue deleting note by note until you get to the beginning of the passage. Only the notes and rests of that layer will get deleted. You'll have to possibly delete unwanted measure Smart Shapes separately. I don't know whether your speed problem will affect this way. I do this often and it works, but as always, be careful!

Oh yes. I do that as well. The only little problem that it makes awkward in my document is that I use Layer 4 for parenthesized trill notes. All rests are hidden except small noteheads. It happens that a rest is selected but I cannot see it, sometimes it jumps to another measure and I hit delete without noticing what happens.
I just hoped there is a tool that deletes just one layer, something as a filter.
Anyway, thank you both.

If you have Jari's plugins, there's one for this. If you don't have them, get them.

JW Staff Polyphony/Layers/Remove/Layer 2.

This works perfectly. Many thanks Zuill!
I am not sure why these plugins are not a part of Finale's core.
