In score layouting which one do you use?
Which one is more "safe", so that nothing is improperly missing?
Why should one be used over another?

Hide Empty staves is an attribute of the system, whereas the Staff Style is applied to Measures. Also, I think the Staff Style will still apply, even if there is music in that region.

Everything you say I understand. That is not directly what I have asked.

With Hide Empty Staves, if something is later put into a formerly empty staff, it will automatically reappear. So perhaps that's "safer."

There are uses for both approaches. The reason I suggested the Staff Style in the other thread on this subject was because the dashed line placeholder using Hide Empty Staves was bothersome to you. As it doesn't bother me, I don't have a problem using it. It all depends on one's preferences.

Needless to say, you probably shouldn't be doing either until you've finished composing your piece.
