I have Finale 2014 and I’m using a mac. I’m trying to write Mariachi warmups that have separate guitar and vihuela staves. I’m not new to finale but new at using the chord tool. I want to put both chord names and chord symbols available for my students. Since they don’t have vihuela chords already available, I created chords for the vihuela that I needed. My issue is when I went to create the chords for guitar, it changes the vihuela chords back to guitar chords. I cannot differentiate the two instrument groups in my file even though I have changed the fretboard group and even added a new group for both vihuela and guitar. Since the chords are played differently, I need to be able to have a G chord look different in my vihuela staff than my guitar staff. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated

Not sure. Since I don't know the vihuela, I can't really help there. One should be able to use a different chord grid on one staff from another, but you might need to do it one chord at a time. If you had a file with chords from the vihuela, I'm sure we could figure out how to blend the 2 into one file.

I did a bit of research on the vihuela and I hope the attached file has the look, or close to it. Playback is another issue, but even guitar playback is lame, so I wouldn't bother.

P.S.: Maybe I should have posted a picture.

Thank you! Yes, that’s how I’d like it to look. The problem is I create my vihuela chords manually the way I’d like them to look, but when I try to create/choose my guitar chords it changes all the vihuela chords I created of the same name to guitar chords. So, all my D chords in my vihuela now look like guitar chords or vice versa.
My assumption is I’m making a labeling mistake in either the fretboard group or in the name of the chord, but not sure how to fix it? Any thoughts?

Start by examining the file I created. Instead of changing the chord fretboard, change the definition. I chose Select by the chord ID. I then duplicated 1 and now have number 5. I edited 5 to be the vihuela. You need to choose just 5 strings and the pitch (up one octavbe) for strings A D and G. I then chose that for that chord. I did this one by one for each of the chords in the vihuela staff. You don't need to create the new ID each time. Just select the new one (the fifth one over)
