Thankful that old MM forum data still accessible

Postby David Ward » Thu Mar 02, 2017 11:11 am

I've just been grateful to gain access to info on the old forum: glad it's still viewable.

Googling site:forum.makemusic.com + percussion clef Peter Thomsen I was able to find this thread from 2012 http://forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx?f=6&m=378865 and then download Peter's clef library, which solved the problem then under discussion and facing me anew (I seemed to have mislaid the library during one of the up-dates).

Has this quirk (too low cautionary percussion clef) been corrected in F 25? It's still there in F 2014.5.

v25 is still the same, but Finale has a built in way to fix this without needing a custom clef. I just changed the musical baseline offset to 1.75 and it seems to work fine. Why not do it that way? Maybe I'm missing something in your situation that might be different than mine.

Doesn't that change the vertical placement of the full-size clef as well? That would not be desirable.

It appears the advice in the documentation is a bit misleading. I'll research further.

P.S.: Okay. You do need to create a custom clef, but it can be done as a character instead of a shape. That is at least easier. And the 1.75 I mentioned earlier was steps. I use inches, so .026 inches for the offset is what I need to set.

P.P.S.: It seems to round .026 inches to .025. Oh well. Close enough for jazz.
