I'm using 2014 on Windows 7 -32 bit. Whenever I attempt to import a .tiff file created by scanning, everything works well until the end of recognition (right as it displays the music in the program). At that point I get the dreaded "Java initialized incorrectly" and then the error message that it couldn't read a temp file. I had been using Java 6 until THAT stopped working this morning. I've tried reinstalling 6 and even upgraded to 7. I'm just trying to be able to work until I get a new 64-bit computer which will mean I can then run Finale 25 which supposedly doesn't have Java issues. Any ideas until then???

I've never had that issue, so I can't comment. When you do get 64-bit and Finale v25, I hope you realize that the feature to import scanned music has been removed due to copyright violation concerns. So, you may not have Java issues, but you also won't have scan import.

I have searched this forum and found SOME suggestions (from 2010 and earlier), none of which work. I was just hoping that someone might have found a solution that worked. Thank you for the heads up about scanning in 25. I use that feature to create audio files to help our aged singers in our community chorus learn their music.

You might want to upgrade to 2014.5, and see if that makes a difference.

My bad -- I AM using 2014.5. For some reason, it's working sporadically for now (I must be holding my mouth right). Hopefully I won't be needing the scan feature as much in the future.

SmartScore Lite requires a 32bit Java run time. Mac users can download it from MM or Apple. The JRE 8 from Oracle is 64bit only (Mar or Win) and won't work for scanning into 2014.5 or earlier.

Weird that you are having this problem in Windows and that it's intermittent—makes no sense. You can go to Oracle and download the last build of JRE 6. You may have an older version that's wonky.
