Back in the days of the good old Mac OS9, I had a simple application that generated a printable "Font Map" for all of the characters and their keystrokes associated with a given font. I'd like to find something for OSX that works with Unicode fonts as well as the standard fonts.

Any suggestions appreciated. I'm willing to purchase an app for a reasonable charge.

Thanks,
N.

Remember, with the old Mac format, you only had 255 characters to deal with, so a map was no big deal. With Unicode, you have thousands. So I wouldn't expect a way to print them all out.

A utility like PopChar is a very good way to navigate the fonts, and see what the keystrokes are.

There must be some font-examining utility for the Mac, but if you're only interested in the Western characters, say, you could make a word-processing document with the character codes you're interested in, then change fonts whenever you want to look at a different font.

Like miker, I would suggest PopChar.

Thanks, friends. I downloaded PopChar and that will do nicely. Seems like a very well written app, and reasonably priced to boot ($32 US).

Can't you just install FontForge and print from there?

Apple's Baskerville has 1777 characters. Adobe's Garamond Premier Pro has 2372. November2 has 1790.

Multiply that by all the different styles and weights of all your fonts, and you're going to need a lot of paper! :D

PopChar is good: I've been using it since Classic Mac days. But I also use FontExplorerX to manage my fonts, and that gives you a nice table of each font's characters, too, with their keystroke and Unicode numbers, and you can copy chars to the clipboard.

You can use a PDF printer. Some photons are necessary to display it. :D
