Is there a way to change the default part names in 2017?
For example, if I have 2 Bb trumpet parts, they are listed as "Trumpet in Bb 1" and "Trumpet in Bb 2"

That is incorrect - It should be "Trumpet 1 in Bb" and "Trumpet 2 in Bb"

I write a LOT of brass quintet music - The Finale default on this has bugged me since Finale '97.

Make a template for brass quintet with the staff names as you like. Use a copy of the template to start any new files.

Wish you had asked 20 years ago.

That's great for Brass Quintet.
what about all the other ensembles that I write for with 2 or more trumpets? That's why I asked about changed the defaults.
And also, Thank you for the quick reply!

Make a small FinaleScript w/text search & replace. And Ron is right; turn off auto numbering of parts. I use a script like that to translate all instrument names to Norwegian.
