Here's a snippet from a concert band score I'm working on in which the trills have stopped working--neither articulation trills nor smart shape trills work. I think my HP settings are OK. Anyone have an idea what happened? Thanks.

I don't have the proper aria player, but I get trills with HP set to standard with MIDI output. Try rebooting.

Thanks, Motet. But a reboot didn't fix it. I also tried erasing the measure contents and rewriting it--still no trill. The file doesn't play back trills on a different computer, either, and new trills in other scores don't work. :?

HP is set to None. Try choosing something else. Start with Standard and see how that works.

Thanks, Zuill. That worked. But the problem appears to be that Finale wasn't keeping my HP setting--I thought I had turned HP on to standard. I had to reset it several times before it would stick and the trill would work again. My understanding is that there are two ways to apply HP--via the midi tool and through the playback settings button. I believe the preferred way is to use the midi tool. Am I wrong?

Is the HP setting per file? It was off when I loaded Arthur's file, but I thought that was because I turn it off. This is a confusing area of Finale--what's per file and what's a global setting.

HP was set to None when I opened the file. It is Document specific.

I can't say why it didn't stick. It did for me.

As far as HP, it is fickle. Hard wiring the data via the MIDI Tool solves some of the issues, but HP is still unpredictable, regardless. All the MIDI tool does is to take the control parameters from the chosen setting and then save the MIDI data so that it is exactly the same each time you play the file. It also circumvents some of the bugs that have been reported when HP is used "on the fly". After applying the plugin, if things aren't exactly as wanted, then you can use the MIDI tool to make adjustments. However, that is not for the faint-hearted.

I'm not much of an HP user, but on my slow machine there's enough of a delay in the one-the-fly HP when you press Play to be annoying. I imagine the plug-in method avoids that?

Clicking the playback settings shows that HP is set to none, but the midi tool shows HP set to standard. So is playing back the only way to determine whether or not HP is actually on or not? The playback settings always show "None," even when I have applied HP by way of the midi tool.

Even though Standard shows in the box in the MIDI Tool, until you actually apply it to the score, the data hasn't been hard-wired. I can't see that it was applied, but I may be wrong.

This may have been my problem. HP is finicky and tricky.

When I click Apply in the Apply HP box, it does apply the hard-wired data, including hidden notes for the trill playback.
