I've been having a hell of a time installing the JW Plugins in my Mac.
I know that they're supposed to go in the following directory: /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale/Plug-ins.
The problem is that's not where my Finale/Plug-ins folder is. Not only can I not find it but MM doesn't know where it is either. Day 4, support person 3, I finally received an acknowledgement of the problem—but he doesn't know where the installer put it either. No, it's not in the System/Library nor the users/library. One exists as there are Finale plugins in the drop-down menu.
I even ran the following in Terminal to see if they were somehow hidden. Then I used every Find file trick I know (and I know many). Nada...
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
If someone knows — or even knows where the installer log file is (if any exists), feel free to chime in. I'll see if I can attach a screen shot of /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/ so all can see what's missing.

This shot shows that there's a /Finale/Plugins folder somewhere. I was going to post one showing that it really is 25 but it had my serial number and activation code—oops.
BTW, I am working with MM support on this. If no one knows, that's ok. I will report whatever the solution turns out to be.
This is as much a heads-up that there is an issue in case someone with the same issue comes looking.

What does Preferences > Folders say for the location of the plug-ins folder?
You should have a "Finale" folder in /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic for Finale 25. It's odd that it's not there, as some of the component folder can't be relocated. Are you sure it's not there - the scroll bars would indicate there is something else in that folder.
Have you tried doing a search for a named plug-in? I use EasyFind, which is better than Spotlight for non-user documents, or you can use the Terminal. It's also free.

As you see, I have three other Finale folders plus archived legacy versions in backup files. Searching for a specific plug finds many results.
If you know of one specific to 25, that should work.

There are no scroll bars in that picture. You are just going to have to believe it's not there—even though Preferences says it is.BuonTempi wrote:What does Preferences > Folders say for the location of the plug-ins folder?

I'm pretty savvy with a Mac. I have a little side business where I maintain and troubleshoot around 30 at any time and was the consultant who helped Apple solve the print and scan problems that plagued OS 10.6–10.8.1. I spent a lot of time before I contacted MM support. The only response that is relevant is the following:
The bottom line is that the directory /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale ought to be there. As it turns out, though, it's possible under specific conditions to still launch and use Finale, which I was surprised to learn today! So, my theory is that this directory was missing on your Mac for awhile for some unknown reason, but that fact did not come to light until you tried to install those additional plug-ins. Out of curiosity, does the Plug-ins menu currently appear when you open a MUSX file in Finale v25?
And the answer is, Yes, as in the screen shot previously posted.

You don't have multiple volumes that might have root level Libraries, do you?
If Finale's prefs are saying they are in the default location, and the default location doesn't exist, then the first thing I would do would be to check the integrity of the disk.
Then do a search limited to the boot volume's /Library folder, and see how many plug-ins of a given name you get. If it's fewer than 4, then that's odd.
At worst, you can re-install, which should put them in the correct location.

As I told MM, I've done 5 installs trying to get that folder there—how many does it take?BuonTempi wrote:You don't have multiple volumes that might have root level Libraries, do you?

Disk is an 850 EVO 2T SSD and is fine.
With SIP enabled, the 25 installer can't write to the root level and, if it tried, MM would have had a slew of problems from every user who attempted an install in El Cap or Sierra.
Since the folders are in the correct place for 2011, 2014 and 2014.5, I don't expect to find anything at the Root but I know how to disable SIP and go looking—that's how I fixed Soundflower. Thanks for the suggestion.

Even if the screen shot does not display any scroll bars, it is clear that there must be an extra item in the MakeMusic folder window:MikeHalloran wrote:… If someone knows — or even knows where the installer log file is (if any exists), feel free to chime in. I'll see if I can attach a screen shot of /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/ so all can see what's missing.
The message bar at the bottom of the window tells that there are “7 items” in the folder.
But you can only see 6 items in the window:
1. Finale 2014.5
2. Finale 2014
3. SmartMusic 9
4. SmartMusic 2010
5. Finale 2011
6. Common
My guess is that the 7th item is the missing folder called “Finale” (the folder for Finale 25 is called just “Finale”, without any number).
Things to try (I assume that you are Mac OS X savy enough to do the following):
- Scroll while the cursor points inside the window
- Drag the lower right window corner, to increase the window size
- Reduce the icon size to lowest size
- Change the icon sorting, e. g. to alphabetical sorting
- Change the window view, from Icon View to something else (List View, Column View, Cover Flow)

What happens if you press Shift Command G, and then type the path to the plug-ins folder? You can use <TAB> to auto-complete each folder level.
Or try pasting this into your browser:
file:///Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale/Plug-ins

No, you are seeing the borders from the screen shot. You are mistaken on this. Do I have to post another screen shot for you to believe me? I can... heck, I can show hidden folders, too.Even if the screen shot does not display any scroll bars, it is clear that there must be an extra item in the MakeMusic folder window:
The file is not in System/Library — did I mention that here or just to MM Support? After the users/Library, it's the second place I checked.BuonTempi wrote:Good idea. The following appears:MikeHalloran wrote:

It may have been moved or deleted.
ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND
Thanks, I will include that and the resulting screen shot to MM Support. Really, honest to goodness. It's not there.

SIP protects the Root. That's what it does. It is possible to find old files at the root level—before OS 10.11, it was possible to write there and now it isn't if SIP is enabled as it should be. There are no Finale files in my system at the root level and none from 2014.5 nor 25 could have been installed there.
I am happy to try other suggestions but am not interested in you arguing with me.

Yea... That could work. I'll wait till I hear from MM again before taking that time.motet wrote:Rename them one by one until it disappears from the V25 menu.MikeHalloran wrote:As you see, I have three other Finale folders plus archived legacy versions in backup files. I see TG Tools listed as a separate drop-down. I keep thinking that 25 is reading the folder from 2014 or 2014.5 since I never installed the beta into 25. Putting the 64bit JW Plugs into either folder doesn't make them show up in 25, however.
If the latest from MM doesn't move me in a forward direction, I'll remove both versions of 2014 and see if the plugs disappear from 25. I have the installers on a backup so restoring is easy.

One mystery solved:
The scroll bar that you see is for the attachment on this forum—you can scroll up and down to see the entire screen shot. I just noticed that all the larger screen shots have one. It is not part of the graphic thai I uploaded.

Success!
As I posted earlier, it occurred to me that 25 had to be using the Plug-Ins in either the 2014 or 2014.5 folder—even though there was no path that I could find.
With that in mind, I moved all six folders from the MakeMusic folder to the Desktop. I then ran the 25 installer once again. This time, the Finale and Finale/Plugin folders appeared. I placed the TG Tools 3 beta and the 64bit JW Plug-ins in the correct folder and everything is now where it should be. I then put the 2011 and 2014.5 folders back.
Not having a use for the 2014 folder nor the SmartScore folders from 2009 & 2010, I trashed them.
I then played a little in 2011, 2014.5 and 25 and all is good.
So, was it one of the old folders that fooled the installer? I don’t know but nothing else makes sense.
Thanks again for your help. Without your suggestions and those from MM Support, it would have taken me a lot longer to try what I did.

Interestingly, MM corrected me when I used the final letter "s" and told me to drop it—I didn't post that screen shot. You are correct, of course.BuonTempi wrote:The URL you typed into the browser lacked the final letter "s".
It didn't work either way since the last two folders weren't there. They are now and that's the important thing.
