On the attached file, I'd like to know how to get a horizontal bracket over the two Bs in the RH,
pointing down, to indicate that they are to be played with left hand. I tried using the brackets
in the Main Tool Pallette, but I can't seem to get them pointing downward, nor to make the downward
points longer. Also, I don't want to place the two Bs in the bass clef.

I would just write the 2 Bs on the bass stave, like this:

Thanks, but that's not what I'm looking for.

musicus,

I am not sure what you mean by your words “the brackets in the Main Tool Palette”?
In my own Main Tool Palette I have 26 tools (Selection Tool, Zoom Tool, Hand Grabber Tool, Staff Tool, &c.), but I do not have a Bracket Tool.

However, you can create the horizontal bracket with the Smart Shape Tool’s sub-tool Custom Line Tool.
In the Smart Line Designer you can customize the line’s thickness, hooks, &c.

* See the attached graphic.

Personally I find that the solution is ugly - the horizontal bracket is too close to the noteheads.

I have also attached another solution, using cross staff notation.

Yes, you understood the problem, and I like your second solution using the diagonal line from cross-staff notation.
Thanks for the observation.

What version and platform of Finale was that file done in?

It opened in 2011 and Notepad 2012 for Mac, no problem.

I could not get it to open in 2014.5 nor 25 even after specifying those preferences and changing privileges in Get Info. Only when I changed the extension to musx would it open in 2014.5 and 25—never seen that before and some of my files are over 25 years old.

I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at, but instead of designing a new shape you can attach the standard smart-shape bracket to the rests in the left hand and they will point down. Then drag it up and adjust. Depending on your settings, you may or may not have to press the Alt key (or Mac equivalent) when dragging to get the shape to stay attached to the lower staff and so have the hooks continue to point down.

So weird, especially when it was zipped first. That's why I was curious as to how it was created. Oh well...

I would use a bracket that one can find in the Bravura font. Bracketing the first B only would probably get the point across and avoid clutter.

Or, put the F#-E stems up and the B's stems down.
