FINALE 2014.5 MAC
When changing time signatures or in this case, using independent repeat signs.
Finale seem to cut off part of the barline/repeat sign. Any fixes? Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by "independent repeat signs." What does the staff style do? It might be best to attach your file.

In this case one staff is repeating the other isn't. So I used staff styles to not show one. But I had the same problem recently when I was changing time signatures and repeating, the repeat bar line don't show up...as in my example....bottom staff.

That's a bit arcane, so I'm not surprised the bug hasn't been noticed. You may have to fix it by adding the heavy line as an expression. This expression is already present in the default document in the Miscellaneous category, so this should be easy.

Hi all,

Sorry to reply to a (relatively) old thread, but I just came across this issue in one of my own scores, using Finale 25. Wondering if anyone found a good workaround other than using expressions. This is what I got from tech support today:

"I've been talking with some other techs about this case, and it's been determined that this is an issue that's not easily rectified in this document.
The method for addressing this is to use the Expression Tool, choose the Miscellaneous category on the left, and select the thick vertical bar. Once assigned, you'll have to make fine adjustments to get it to complete the repeat sign, but it should work."

First, I don't understand the "not easily rectified in this document" part. Beyond that, in a large score this is a TON of expressions to have to add and manually adjust by hand. What a bummer.

Any other ideas? Thanks,

Justin

But you must not have that many broken repeats. Rather than use an expression (what knucklehead suggested that? :-) try a smart shape.

I haven't the faintest idea of what you or the original poster want to accomplish. However, if you want to make an expression position itself without having to tweak each and every one, go to the Expression Designer and hit the "Positioning" tab. The thick barline is already set to center itself on the staff. You can set the horizontal position relative to a number of locations - I'm guessing the left or right barline is what you want. Once you have the positioning set, enter the barlines with a metatool assignment. Each one will appear perfectly positioned. Bang, zing, boom - done.

Does this help, or am I way off?

If it's multi-staff, though, then they would all have to be the same distance apart (not unusual, granted), which is why I suggested a smart shape.

N Grossingink: You can see the issue in the OP's image. The repeat is missing its bar line. But you're correct, and I ended up doing exactly what you recommended. I spent a few minutes figuring out exactly how much to shift the horizontal positioning and that made the process somewhat automatic. However, I do still find it irritating to have to replace bar lines all over a score when they should be there automatically. Seems like this kind of bug--though tech support did not acknowledge it as such--should be addressed in a 25.5 update long before music XML playback issues or whatever.

Thanks all.

I see that now - sorry. I didn't scroll down to reveal the entire screenshot. The one on top looks OK.

Nonsense. The OP did not give enough information to diagnose the problem, namely the Mac OS. We see only the symptom.

Bug? No evidence of that otherwise I could repeat it. I suspect part of the process was left out. No file was posted so none of us could see if it showed up for us.

While the solutions offered work, knowing the problem might have offered others. Exporting via MusicXML into 25 is the one I would have tried first. OP doesn’t have 25? Not my issue.

When you apply a Staff Style to the measure to not show repeat bars, the bug shows up. It is easy to reproduce.
