Alternate tie key stroke?
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I am a long time user of Finale and am quite adept at inputting notes using the numeric keypad and MIDI. However, there is one command that slows me down each time I need one, and that's the tie. I've always used the = key, but if I'm flying along following the music I'm inputting, I have to stop and look at the keyboard to find the = key. The T key is even farther from the numeric keypad, so I don't see that as a quicker alternative.
Is there another way of doing this from the right side of the keyboard? Is there a way to program a meta tool to reconfigure one key of the keypad?
Thanks for any input you might provide.

Of course, there's the TGTools Keybord remapper: http://www.tgtools.de/keymap.htm . I have programmed the PageDown Key to trigger the underscore key, which is the shortcut to tie to the previous note (german version). I use the PageDown key because I can reach it easily with the pinky finger when my left hand is on the number pad.Brent wrote:Is there a way to program a meta tool to reconfigure one key of the keypad?

I suppose that you are using the Speedy Entry Tool (not the Simple Entry Tool), right?
(I could be wrong here, but I do not think that you in the Simple Entry Tool can tie with the = key)
For What It Is Worth, on my Mac NumPad I have a = key - located above the 8 key, between the Clear*) key and the / key.
For me, that works quite well, and I do not have to look at the NumPad to find its = key.
I seem to remember that some Windows users program the 0 (zero) key to trigger a tie in Speedy Entry.
*) If I Recall Correctly, the NumPad on Windows keyboards has a NumLock key where the NumPad on Mac keyboards have a Clear key.

Up to v25, with Windows, I have used TG Tools to program the 0 number pad key for ties. Due to some programming issues, which Make Music has not fixed yet, TG Tools (at least the Lite version) doesn't handle the saved shortcuts from earlier versions properly (probably because of the change to 64bit). I'm hoping this gets fixed soon.

First, thanks to all who have responded with assistance and advice.
I don't have that keyboard remapper in my TG Tools plug-ins. Is this a third party plug-in that I need to download? Where do I get it, and is there a cost?
Thank you.

If you have paid for TGTools, it's under TGTools/Options, where it's called "keyboard remapper". If not, then Plug-ins/TG Tools/Menu Shortcuts (sic). I can't see the latter since I have the paid version, but presumably it does more than provide menu shortcuts, e.g. the tie in Speedy entry (there also should be no space in "TGTools").
I rely heavily on this. A huge addition to Finale.

Thank you. After experimenting with the Plug-ins/TG Tools/Menu Shortcuts I was able to change my keyboard mapping and move the tie command onto my numeric keypad. Do you know if this becomes a universal change to Finale, or would I have to do this with each new file?
Again, thanks so much.

I haven't heard that they have resolved the issue yet. I believe their last word tossed the ball into Tobias's court.

That might be. Not sure. Since I won't open TGTools Menu Shortcuts in v25, I can't confirm. I would rather have my shortcuts available in all the other versions, so I live austerely in v25.
