Finale 25.3.0.276 for Mac

I extract parts from scores frequently, but a few times I've noticed wrong notes in the extracted parts, different from what is in the score. The latest example of this is in an extracted alto saxophone part. The problem note is supposed to be an F natural which is written in the transposed score (top line), but the extracted part has an A-sharp (below the staff). Both times this happened to me it was a wrong note that was very obvious, so it was easy to find; but I'm wondering how many times this has happened where the mistake wasn't easy to find, and I didn't catch it. I know I should be checking my work anyway, but this problem has only happened to me since upgrading to my current version of Finale (last year), and I've been a user since version 1.0 in 1988. Has anyone else encountered this?

Does the A# appear in the linked part (in the score file) or just in the extracted part? If it does appear in the linked part, try generating the parts again to see if the result is correct. Use a copy of the score as your test.

N Grossingink:

It isn't a linked part at all. The correct note appears in the source score. The problem was only with the extracted part. By the way, all the other notes are correct; only the one note was the problem.

You have to have a linked part to extract from. Is it wrong in the linked part, or only in the new file?

Re Motet:

Ah, now I understand. After originally posting this problem, I tried using the linked files instead of extracted parts for the first time, and found that the problem only lied in the extracted part, NOT the linked part. Since this is my first time using linked parts, I don't know if the previous occurance was with the associated linked part as well as the extracted part or not (although my guess is not).

You might find you like linked parts better. Though there is some extra work involved for certain differences between parts and score, it has its distinct advantages.

Any chance that when you opened the extracted part you had the Simple entry tool active, say? It's so easy in Finale to click in the wrong place and make an inadvertent change.
