Hi all,
Regarding scores that include two pianos:
Q1. Should I make one part so that it includes both Piano I and Piano II, so that they can see each other's part? Or should I make a Piano I part and a separate Piano II part?
Also, (if the former), some passages are the same for both pianos. Shall I save space/page turns by having a single Piano I & II system there?
Cheers,
Hector.

It will probably be easier to create good/usable page turns if you make a separate Piano I part, and a separate Piano II part.

If it is a work for a larger ensemble/orchestra that includes 2 pianos, make separate parts for each piano.Hector Pascal wrote:Hi all,

I think this is what you meant.
Two-piano scores are needed if it is a work for 2 pianos only, and that is an entirely different situation. Is this the case?

Thanks, all, for your input.
Yes, the 2 pianos will be part of a larger ensemble.
Having looked in Gould this afternoon, she seems to recommend putting both pianos' parts together on the page, i.e.:
Piano 1 ========
Piano 2 ========
Piano 1 ========
Piano 2 ========
etc.
I will re-read Gould tomorrow and confirm.
Cheers,
HP.

Theres no reason why you can't prepare two different parts by making the 'other' part smaller on the page.
My wife plays a lot of piano duets. Pianists want to know what the other player is doing.

I believe Carnival of the Animals has each piano in a separate part, not combined together. That is a well known example. One can do whatever one wants to. It might depend on what the piano parts are all about.

You are correct. Clicking on these links will get you Piano 1 and Piano 2 repectively:zuill wrote:I believe Carnival of the Animals has each piano in a separate part, not combined together.
