A friend asked for help modifying the Symphonic band template.

He wants to change Clarinet in Bb 1, and Clarinet in Bb 2-3, to 1-2, and 3-4.
I looked in Score Manager, and examined the format for the 2-3 names, both Full and Abbr., and changed them for both instruments. The full staff name on p. 1 stayed the same, with Clarinet in Bb between the two staves, and 1 on the upper staff, and 2 3 on the lower. However, on pages 2 ff., the abbreviated name was correct.

I looked at a couple of other instrument, with multiple parts, and they used either what I tried, or some strange setup in the Full Name box with superscript and subscript (?). Anyway, I'm confused, and will take advice!

The template is attached.

There is a Staff Style in measure 1 on both clarinet staves (also trumpets, horns and percussion). If you edit that, you're good to go. See attached.

N., brilliant. Thank you.

Questions: Whatever possessed you to look at staff style? Why was it necessary to do that? Is that what allows the instrument name to be in the center?

Actually, whenever I see this configuration of stacked numbers and instrument name centered between staves, I know it's a combination of staff and group names. I picked the Staff Tool and the Staff Style name was set to appear. Double clicking on the bar above the staff let's you edit the style. That, and maybe a certain amount of dumb luck.

I generally find it helpful to go to the Staff menu, and select
Show Staff Styles
and
Show Staff Style Names

They display as thick, highlighted lines above the staff.

Don’t worry!
They will only display when you are in the Staff Tool.
To get a “cleaner” look of the layout, just switch to another tool, e. g. the Selection Tool.
