I just upgraded to version 25 from 2011 on windows
When I put a G above the bass clef in the trombone part, the notehead is tan.
Please tell me how I can turn off this annoying feature.
Thanks
Lou

Welcome to the forum!

Take a look in the sub-menu
View menu > Out-of-Range Notes > Off

You might also like to go to

and de-select some of the automatic features there, like e. g.

“Respect Instrument Ranges when Copying or Changing Instruments”
or
“Automatic Instrument Family Group Brackets”

One wonders at what level of ability the G above middle C is considered ‘out of range’ on a tenor trombone and by whom. Even a bass trombone is occasionally (but rarely) asked to go to the C one octave above middle C in some pieces in the standard orchestral repertoire.

Thanks for the help, Peter.
All is well, once again.
By the way the G is "out of range" at the intermediate level.

How odd! I've just checked the Associated Board requirement for Grade V trombone and it includes playing from memory two-octave scales in G major and minor (ie including the G in question). Does ‘intermediate’ mean something different in the US? Or is it just Finale? I might consider Grade V to be at the lowest level of intermediate. Grade VIII is the usual minimum requirement when applying for entry to a UK music college…

Some otherwise able adolescent players may indeed strain a little with the G; but ‘out of range’…?

Who decides these things?
