Hello all. I'm on Windows 8, Finale 2014.5. I also use Finale on a Windows 10 desktop, but I'm stuck with my old laptop for this project.

I'm a percussion arranger working on a high school halftime show. This specific school is using pre-existing wind scores, but taking a lot of cuts, and I want my measure numbers to line up with the wind scores.

So I need to be able to do things with measure numbers like 36, 37, 38, 67, 68, 85, 86, 87 etc. I've messed around with the measure number dialog box and measure regions. I'm able to get new measure number regions to work as far as different fonts, but I can't get it to start on a different number.

Hopeful someone can help me out!

I'd suggest you get a free plugin called "JW Measure Numbers". Very simple to use - just highlight a region of measures, type in a start number and you're good to go.

Find it here and JW accepts donations too:

You may want to set Preferences/View to "display defined measure numbers" as well. That applies to the numbers shown at the bottom of the screen in Scroll view. The defined numbers will show in the score in any case, though.

Doesn't that cause other problems, though? I find strange things happen (say for example, with copy and paste) unless I have actual measure numbers showing.

Maybe that's been fixed in 25.4?

It seems to only cause problems if you uncheck "include in measure numbering" in a measure's attribute. I avoid doing that (sometimes by creating an extra region if there's a pick-up in the middle of a region) and don't have a problem with displaying defined measure numbers.

Likely it hasn't been fixed (it's been, what, 8 years or something like that?).

^^ I've tried that thing you circled in the dialog box, it doesn't work. Just gives me a wacky oversized font of the original measure numbers. I can fix that font problem, no big deal it's just annoying, but the shift in measure numbers itself doesn't work.

My preferences were already set to "display defined measure numbers."

Looks like it's plugin time.

Yes, go for the plug-in. The plug-in just automates those same measure region settings, though. If you want to attach your file, maybe we can figure out why it's not working for you.
