I'm having trouble deciphering the instruction for a repeat of the first few measures of a piece after the second repeat at the end of the piece.

How do I signal the time I want to repeat these measures, what measures are to be repeat, how many times to repeat them? In some cases I want to repeat them twice (once soft and once loud)?

I will playback, not just notate.

Your description is a bit confusing. Maybe post an example file so we can see what you've done to be of better help. It sounds like a D.C. al Fine, maybe. However, that might be entirely off the mark, so a sample would be a good start.

If I understand you correctly, you want to go back to the beginning, play a few of the first measures, repeat them, and then end there, right?

* It might be a better idea (for the performer who should read your layout), not to go back to the beginning, but rather add those few measures after the end of the piece:
“When in doubt, write it out”

Anyway, here are some hints:

Use the Repeat Tool.

To go back to the very beginning of the document, use the text repeat Da Capo (= “from the beginning”).
In this case, after Da Capo the playback should go to a Fine, and stop there.

To go back to any other place in the document, use the text repeat Dal Segno.

To set the Target of a text repeat, use the dialog box Text Repeat Assignment.

Generally, to set the playback of a text repeat, use the Text Repeat Assignment.
All the options you need, are there:
- it can be a Never Jump (Mark) to jump to,
- it can Always Jump,
- it can jump on a specific Pass (or Passes),
- it can play a section 2 times (= repeat) - and be Reset an a Repeat Action (like e. g. Da Capo),
- it can stop on a specific Pass (this is what a Fine should do)
- the target can be a specific measure, or another text repeat

OK Peter, here is the score with the two repeat sections as I want them. Would like to repeat the first section once (or perhaps even twice) after the piece finishes.

Could you show me please. Thanks much. Stan
