After installing Finale 25.4.1.152 earlier today, the Finale icon on my desktop has disappeared. The Finale selection is active. It's just got a plain white, blank icon. Where is the correct icon located so I can changed the blank white one?

Thanks.

First, try rebooting. If that doesn't clear it up, right click on the icon and pick Properties, which will let you change the icon.

I had to do the same thing. It happened days after the installation. I wasn't sure in which file to find the icon. It is in the Finale 25 exe file. 2014.5 used the temporary installation file for the icon. 2014 used the exe file. Sleuthing like that is what lead me to what to do.

Thanks, Z. Point at the executable. Easy, once you know.

Thanks, again.

If/When this happens on a Mac, the fix is a Safe Boot.

Shut down. Boot while holding the <Shift> Key. It will take a long time (really long time if booting from a mechanical hard drive). At the login screen, enter your Admin or User password and wait till all the icons on your desktop are rebuilt. Now shut down and boot normally.

This also has the benefit of rebuilding the desktop and restoring Alias icons. If you've been seeing generic alias icons, this will fix you up.

If the routine appears to be familiar, it is identical to Rebuild Desktop in the OS 9 and earlier days. It also rebuilds paths and resets the caches to default.
