In an existing score, is there any way to test to see if a marking is a slur or a tie?
I have been deleting ties and replacing with a new tie to be sure.

activate the smartshape tool.
only slurs will have handles to edit them.

if you activate the tie tool in special tools, then clicking in a measure with a tie will cause the three handles of a tie to appear.

Also, the default color of slurs in Finale is red. The tie adopts the color of the layer it is in and concerns notes of the same pitch, as opposed to slurs, which indicate a legato phrasing of notes of different pitches.
