When I select the measure tool, I'm used to seeing the two handles at the top corner of the measure. The top handle is for resizing the measure, and the bottom handle is for beat spacing.

But lately as I'm creating worksheets, the bottom handle sometimes randomly disappears. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks!
Dan

The bottom handle is for the beat charts. If music spacing is not active or hasn't been run on the measure(s), it won't show until you run spacing on the measures in question.

Just to make things clear:

To get the (bottom) handle for beat-charts, the Measure Attributes pop up menu item “Position Notes: Using Beat-Chart Spacing” must be selected.

This is all that is necessary (= applying music spacing is not necessary).

When you apply Music Spacing, Finale will automatically also select “Position Notes: Using Beat-Chart Spacing”.

Even if Automatic Music Spacing is off, the act of adding notes to a measure turns on the option to use Beat-Chart Spacing. Adding notes will show the second handle.

I wonder why it isn't just always on.

Adding notes doesn't do it for me. Perhaps one of Finale's many variables at play? Of course with me, operator error might enter in.

I guess you're right. I must have toggled it back on without paying attention.

With the default document, all you need to do is put something in the measure (Simple, Speedy, copying) and the handles appear. Or do I have some program option set that's causing that?
